trail conditions: (we treat this page like a forum, good news or bad we want the riders to know what to expect)

March 7, 2010: The valley trails are closed due to the lack of snow. The mountain trails are still good.

February 28, 2010: Above freezing in the valley almost every day, look at February 22 for the trail status.

February 25, 2010: Rain in afternoon and above freezing all day, not good, more trail info soon, I am not sledding at this time.

February 24, 2010: 18" of heavy snow at my house, I believe there will be sledding in the valley again! It is still snowing and is predicted to continue for a while. It is so heavy and deep that I must wait for the groomers up here on trail 120 on the pipe line.

February 22, 2010: Grooming operations are still going on the upper mountain trails. This past Sunday we received 6 to 8 inches on new snow in the mountains.  Westfield village up to OS37 to OS62 is very good, OS62 over the mountain to Montgomery appears to be good with grooming operations going on. Jay village to Jay Peak is good along with the areas around OS35.

The valley trails still remain closed due to the lack of snow. Snow is in the forecast for mid week, let’s hope it comes. We will post by the weekend if snow conditions allow the lower trails to open. RM

February 13, 2010: Trails in the valley are closed! The valley needs snow. In the foothills and mountains, from Jay (the town) west up the mountains the trails are open. In the valley stay off the trails . Property damage will occur and that is not an option. Sleds will be damaged also. When more snow allows we will update and re-open. RM

February 10, 2010: Just rode our trails in the North Troy and Jay area, including the mountain trail.  Excellent job groomer operators!    You found the snow and pulled it into our trails and you've widened our trails to make conditions perfect for a great ride!  I believe you've been out there every night this week.  You've certainly done a wonderful job with what "Mother Nature" has provided (or not provided).   This appreciative rider thanks you! Well done, again!!!!!!!!!!  Our Poker Run this Saturday, Feb. 13th will be great.

p.s.  Still plenty of snow on the mountain trail.  If you haven't  been up in a while, I suggest you take it!  Bring cameras as it is always beautiful.     Thank you once again, generous landowners as well.    CC

February 8, 2010: Bottom line: Good in the foothills and mountains but only fair in the valley. We have had several inches of snow cumulatively in the past week but we have also had wind.

February 8, 2010: All groomers running this week, best riding is still in the higher elevations around OS37 to OS62, OS78 to OS35.

On-going: Loggings operations are going on in a couple of areas, near OS37 where the section of trail is closed, in the areas between OS24 &OS31, and also in the areas in between OS31 &OS32. RM

February 5, 2010: I just saw a groomer in the valley heading west from Cook's.

February 1, 2010: With the new snow last night ( 4 to 6 inches) the two mountain groomers with be back to our normal grooming schedule this week.  I moved Cat3 back to Troy from Cook’s Equipment this past Saturday night, all fields have very little to no snow base in the valley. In the woods the trail base is around 6 inches, plans are to let sleds get out on the trails to pack them and to wait for another 4 to 5 inches on snow before the valley cat starts grooming again. We may try to groom from Cook’s to Coventry gore later in the week with the valley cat. RM

January 31, 2010: Grooming operations are going on with the two mountain cats. Trails are in good shape in the higher areas. Trails down low are bad waiting for snow. Most trails still have some trail base left, just need 6 to 8 inches to get every thing open again. RM

January 24, 2010: Groomers were out this weekend grooming what snow we have yet, trail conditions for what we have are not bad. Riding is still best in the higher areas. Weather forecast is calling for rain on Monday 1/25/10. No grooming will take place on Monday due to weather. No large snowfall in the next ten day forecast. Grooming will continue if snow allows.

January 18, 2010: Due to the recent several days of warm weather grooming operations will be stopping for the next couple of days. On Thursday the two mountain groomers will start back up grooming in the higher elevations. The valley cat that runs out of Cook's is tentative to go back out on Friday. However, if the warm weather continues and the trail base gets worst the valley cat may stay have to stay parked due to the lack of snow. We still have areas that have good cover but there are many areas that are bare. For the respect of our landowners and too prevent damage to crop fields grooming in the lower elevations may have to stop until more snow comes.

Good Riding conditions: Best riding is still on trail 242 and 120 in the mountain areas. Trail was inspected on 1/17/10 with good trail base and good riding conditions.

Poor conditions: due to lack of snow OS26 to OS29 is poor many bare spots in woods and some patches of ice. OS77 to OS16 very little snow, down to dirt in many spots. OS31 to OS30 very little snow, down to dirt in many spots. OS23 to OS74 fair with some bare spots in the woods.

Just when the trails were starting to take shape we had to get the the several days of warm weather. . More snow will come and when it does the groomers will be out in full force to get the trails back into shape.   RM

On-going: Loggings operations are going on in a couple of areas, near OS37 where the section of trail is closed, in the areas between OS24 &OS31, and also in the areas in between OS31 &OS32. RM

January 17, 2010: The valley trails are fair at best. I went for a short ride to get fuel and all trails leading to towns in the valleys are in need of snow and cold temps. They are still passable and I did not encounter any high water. There has been a lot of traffic this weekend. Stay on the trails. Avoiding mud is understood but I have seen sleds cutting across fields not even near the trails and that is how we loose them and/or people get hurt from barbwire fences, ditches or unseen bodies of water!

January 16, 2010: Be advised that the temperature has been just above freezing for over 24 hours (at my house, Elev. 1400'). This may affect water crossings and low areas on the trail. Remember... stay to the right over the hills!!!

January 10, 2010: Trail conditions have been upgraded this week to good. With recent snow this week the trails are really shaping up. Still have a couple of ditches that have been giving us some trouble. We have been installing pallets and softwood brush to try and get them to freeze up. Lots of snow up in the mountain on trail 120 and 242, over a foot of snow this week.

On-going: Loggings operations are going on in a couple of areas, near OS37 where the section of trail is closed, in the areas between OS24 &OS31, and also in the areas in between OS31 &OS32. RM

January 6, 2010: Trails are good to fair. Mostly good in the mountains. They are grooming every night. Please be careful and DO NOT override your line of sight. There are places just over hills and around corners where there are trail obstacles.

January 5, 2010: Trails are good to fair. Some trails have a few holes and you must not override your line of sight. Some are fine but we can still use more snow in the valley. I did not make it to the mountains yet. Remember... stay to the right over the hills!!!

January 1, 2010: All trails have been groomed at least once this week. All cats will be out over the weekend. Trail conditions are better now despite all the rain that was received. The trail base is starting to build and most everything is frozen back up. Early riding conditions still exist with the better riding conditions being in the higher areas. Use caution, we still have rocks showing and some ditches are still not filled. RM

December 21, 2009: Trail Closed: OS37 to Inglenook Lodge in Jay the trail is closed due to Logging.

OS27 to OS37: Sharing parts of trail with log truck access road. Please travel slow and stay on trail. Trail have been relocated off road in several areas. Still able to get to Inglenook Lodge from the other direction OS36 to Jay Peak/Inglenook. Grooming will stop at Inglenook Lodge.

OS37 to OS62 is open. Drag was gone out on the mountain trails. All trails have been packed at least once. OS83-Os26-OS27-OS37-OS62: Good conditions on logging roads- Fair to bad on mountain (lack of snow to fill water bars). OS33-OS34-OS25-OS35: Trail 120 to top of mountain-OS36  Fair to good conditions.

All trails have early riding conditions most ditches are now frozen but lack snow to fill. Still have rocks showing in areas. Trails are passable but use caution. RM

December 19, 2009: Trails are open with early riding conditions. More snow in the higher areas. Use caution. still rocks showing and still have some open ditches. We need more snow. RM

December 16, 2009: Due to trail problems we are not opening trails as of this Wednesday Dec. 16th.Most trails have rocks, mud, and running water. Need more snow and some colder temperatures. Many trails are not marked.

December 16, 2009: VAST trails open!!! Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 (pending snow conditions ***NOT YET!)

December 8, 2009: it's snowing...

October 2, 2009: Trail works continues... thank you for land use land owner forms
